Atticus Art Gallery is proud to present Between Mediums, the final exhibition of CARC LAB/2024, bringing together four international artists whose work challenges the boundaries between painting, photography, and sculpture. This thought-provoking exhibition invites visitors to experience a seamless fusion of artistic disciplines, where one form transforms into another, creating an immersive dialogue between materiality, space, and perception.
Exploring the Space Between Art Forms
Between Mediums interrogates the idea that no artistic discipline exists in isolation. Instead, it highlights how the interplay between media gives rise to new expressions of form, movement, and memory. The exhibition space at Atticus Art Gallery is transformed into a sensory experience, where light, texture, and reflection enhance the layered meanings of the works on display.
The exhibition showcases the works of four renowned international artists, each offering a unique approach to the fusion of painting, photography, and sculpture:
Andrey Gromov (Russia/UK) – Working from archival imagery, Gromov reconstructs memory through layers of oil and pencil, dissolving architectural structures into abstract impressions. His work evokes a haunting sense of erasure and transformation.
Isabelle Moreau (France) – A sculptor-photographer whose creations distort reality, Moreau casts objects based on manipulated photographs, producing works that seem suspended between presence and absence. Her sculptures question the permanence of recorded moments.
Kai Ueda (Japan/USA) – A painter exploring the intersection of digital aesthetics and classical form, Ueda’s canvases replicate photographic distortions and glitches, layering paint like digital pixels to create a sense of instability.
Javier Estévez (Spain) – A conceptual photographer redefining the boundaries of his medium, Estévez prints layered images on metal and glass, transforming photography into a sculptural entity that carries weight and volume.
A Multi-Sensory Exhibition Experience
The exhibition space at Atticus Art Gallery has been designed as an immersive environment, featuring dim lighting, reflective surfaces, and sculptural elements that blur the distinction between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. Glass structures, steel spheres, and fractured light create an interplay of shifting perspectives, encouraging visitors to actively engage with the works beyond passive observation.
CARC LAB’s Legacy of Interdisciplinary Exploration
As the final exhibition of CARC LAB/2024, Between Mediums serves as a culmination of the lab’s mission to foster cross-disciplinary artistic exploration. CARC LAB has provided a platform for art historians, archaeologists, conservators, and interdisciplinary scholars to engage with the materiality of art, challenging conventional boundaries and creating new narratives through cross-media research.
This exhibition continues that tradition, offering a dynamic and evolving dialogue between past, present, and future artistic practices.
